I attended a Sacramento 'Second Saturday' Art Walk about a month ago. Our wonderful art, journalism, Spanish, and LIFE teacher, Mr. Jose Montoya, was showing some of his recent work at a gallery. When I approached him to say hello, he remembered me and my sister Jeanne by name -- even though we haven't seen him in probably 30 years! I spent a lot of years in school after graduating from Wheatland, but the Senior Art class that he taught 1965-66 remains one of the best school experiences I ever had. He looks great and is very active in the art and Latino communities in Sacramento.

My MONToya taught Journalism and was the Advisor for the PIRATES LOG. He was a terrific teacher!!! He definitely influenced my life.

Mr. Montoya was also the advisor of the Fiat Lux yearbook...and an inspiration and support for all of us. I may be wrong...but seem to recall he was the State or Sacramento Poet a few years ago? How lucky we were to have had him as a role model and genuine friend.
