David M. Akins
David Mills “Bear†Akins, 57, of Wheatland died Nov. 29, 2006, at his residence.
Born in Marysville, he was a lifetime Yuba-Sutter resident.
He was a patrolman for Wheatland; a retired deputy sheriff/coroner for Yuba County; and educational/law library correctional officer at Lovelock State Prison in Nevada.
He was the white rag camp director of the Bear Valley YMCA Camp; co-director of the Yuba-Sutter Peace Officer Camp held in Dobbins and Bear Valley; and a member of the American Legion of Fallon, Nev.
Also, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was a Master of Arms.
Survivors include his parents, John and Norma Akins of Wheatland; two brothers, Matthew Akins of Marysville and John Akins Jr. of Fresno; and a sister, Kathleen Akins of Rio Oso.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Akins.

Services: No services will be held per his request. Arrangements are under the direction of Lipp and Sullivan Chapel in Marysville.
